The critter nation hedgehog cage is also great for hedgehogs. Solid bases and
platforms make this safe for hedgehogs.
Hedgehogs can learn to use a litter box like many other small pets. If you can
litter train your hedgehog, you won't have to clean your hedgehog cage as often.
Litter boxes should be emptied daily, and fully clean the hedgehog cage every
week. Hedgehogs really need solid flooring in their cage, and not a wire mesh.
That is why we also recommend a small pet playpen for when your cleaning the
hedgehog cage. This will allow your hedgehog to get some exercise, while being
able to stay safe in the playpen.
Hedgehogs get a lot of exercise foraging for food in the wild. So when kept
as a pet, they need exercise too. Exercise wheels inside a hedgehog cage are
a good idea so the hedgehog can get exercise whenever it wishes. We recommend
that your hedgehog get out of cage time by using a small pet playpen.
You will need to put some toys in the hedgehog cage in order to keep your hedgehog
entertained you can put things like empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls,
rubber balls, small plastic tubes, and boxes. When you want to handle your hedgehog
out of its cage, you need to be careful. Do not pick your hedgehog up if it
does not want to be. Try to entice your hedgehog with treats, so that it knows
good things come from your hands. Try wearing gloves when you start holding
your hedgehog to protect you from its quills.
Hedgehog Behavior- Did you know that when a hedgehogs spines lie flat
that he is relaxed? Anointing is another thing hedgehogs do when they are relaxed,
they lick their quills. If your hedgehog sticks its quills straight up or rolls
into a ball it is upset.
