How to Install a Dog Door
Installing a dog door
into a door in your house may seem a little more intimidating than it actually is. The key to undertaking this task is making sure that you have all of the tools required and are paying attention to detail. Each dog door comes with a specific set of instructions, but generally they are pretty similar.
The first step: align the dog door in the position that you want (usually the bottom of the dog door is aligned with the bottom of your dog’s belly).
The second step: trace the outline of the dog door and make sure that everything is level.
The third step: drill holes on the inside corners of the traced line. It’s important to make sure that you do not go outside of your line! These holes will help you to not over saw and go outside of your traced image.
The fourth step: use your jigsaw to cut from hole to hole. This will give you a cut that matches your outline.
The fifth step: slide your interior doggy door frame in place and mark with a pencil where the next drill holes must go. Remove the interior piece and drill through those holes.
The sixth step: When those holes are drilled, attach the frame to both sides, screw the interior and exterior sides together through the newly drilled holes, and let your dog enjoy his new dog door!
