The cotton yarn in Reknitz sweaters is derived from pre-consumer textile table cuttings, that are cleaned and separated into raw fibers. These cotton fibers are then blended with 24% new acrylic fibers and spun into new yarn for our sweaters. The fibers are not re-colored, as the careful mixing of textile cuttings creates the eye-catching palette.
By using reclaimed cotton fibers, Reknitz sweaters use a resource that already exists without having to grow or dye any new cotton. This means that they not only reduce waste from being incinerated or filling up landfills, but make new products without having to use any additional water, fertilizers, insecticides or dyes! Cotton growers use large amounts of water and insecticides to grow their crops every year. These beautiful sweaters are created through a process of blending a small amount of acrylic with the already existing cotton from table cuttings. Ultimately saving the Earth from more chemicals... and saving drinking water for other important things.. such as drinking!
