CAT DENTAL CARE
Dental care is just as important for
your cat as it is for you. Dry food can help clean some of your cat's teeth,
but it does not replace brushing at the gumline where most dental problems
begin. Introducing your cat to brushing is not at all difficult. It only takes
a few minutes a day and can add years to your pet's life. Fortunately, the
outside surfaces of the teeth need the most attention and can easily be
reached. Brushing is an important part of the Chew, Rinse and Brush program.

TIPS FOR BRUSHING YOUR CAT'S TEETH
Begin by gently massaging around your cat's mouth
and neck area. When your cat has accepted this attention, place a small amount
of Petrodex Toothpaste on your finger and allow your cat to lick it off. This
will help familiarize your cat with the taste of the toothpaste. When you feel
your cat has become comfortable with this attention around the mouth area and
the taste of the paste, you are ready to start brushing. Begin by moistening
the toothbrush bristles and then apply a small dab of Petrodex Toothpaste.
Gently slide the brush into the mouth and rest the bristles on an upper tooth.
Using a small, circular motion, gently brush just that tooth and adjoining
gumline. Gradually increase the number of teeth brushed each day until your cat
accepts this routine willingly. Don't forget to give a lot of praise and
reassurance. For a complete preventive care program, be certain to consult your
veterinarian. **Avoid using human toothpastes. They often contain detergents
which can cause foaming and, when swallowed, can lead to stomach irritation. |
